Why choose Pilates?

Pilates, especially when combined with the equipment, works for everybody, whatever their level of fitness, mobility, or ability.

People practise Pilates for various reasons.

  • To achieve a stronger body, with improved posture and flexibility.

  • To reduce stress through the mindful aspects of Pilates.

  • As an alternative to the predictable treadmill of repetitive exercises, offered by ‘no pain – no gain’ fitness instruction.

  • Rehabilitation from injury/surgery.

  • For the relief of chronic/acute postural issues, such as back pain.

  • Neurological issues. To those who have suffered strokes or paralysis, our equipment offers a perfect pathway to regaining movement, through re-wiring and re-programming, via the apparatus.

“After working with Jane and her equipment, the benefits are really important to me. I am able to move better. Everyday movements like using the stairs, are much easier,”

— Martin C - A long term client battling multiple issues including spinal fractures, strokes, and partial paralysis.

Pilates

Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s to assist dancers and performers, the Pilates Method is a unique system of strengthening and stretching movements, that in combination with control and body awareness, helps to create an ideal mind and body connection - probably even more necessary and relevant today than it was back then.

Working directly with the body’s deepest muscles, to create a strong centre or core, but without the pain associated with conventional exercise, Pilates strengthens and tones muscles and improves posture, flexibility, and balance.

Structured around the spine, the muscles identified as ’The Powerhouse’ are instrumental in all Pilates movements, maintaining both good alignment and posture. Once taught, this muscular control can be applied to any physical function – creating a connection between Pilates and one’s day to day activities.
